Olympic National Park Elopement Packing List: Don’t Get Caught Unprepared

Here’s exactly what to pack for your Olympic National Park elopement adventure—rain or shine. From must-have layers to the little things couples always forget, get the ultimate Olympic elopement packing list.

Eloping in Olympic National Park means embracing the wild beauty of the PNW—misty rainforests, rocky coastlines, and mountain views that’ll make you feel like you’re in a damn fairytale. But let’s be real—this isn’t some climate-controlled wedding venue. You need to pack smart to handle the shifting weather and rugged terrain while still looking and feeling amazing.

I’ve photographed enough adventure elopements to know what couples always forget—so consider this your ultimate Olympic National Park elopement packing guide.

Clothing & Layers: Dress for the Wild PNW

Wedding Attire That Moves

  • If you’re hiking or walking to your ceremony spot, lightweight, flowy outfits work best. Bonus: They look incredible in the wind.
  • If you’re wearing a dress, consider a slip or leggings underneath for warmth.
  • If you’re wearing a suit, make sure it’s breathable and not stiff AF.
  • Comfortable flat shoes or boots (heels and soft sand/moss don’t mix).

Layers Are Non-Negotiable

Even in summer, mornings and evenings can be cold AF.

  • A stylish coat, shawl, or leather jacket to throw on between shots.
  • Thermal leggings (if you’re eloping in cooler months).
  • Gloves & hand warmers (if it’s below 50°F, your fingers will thank you).
  • A backup outfit if you plan to explore multiple locations and want variety.

Gear & Essentials: What You’ll Actually Use

Weather-Proofing Must-Haves

  • Clear bubble umbrellas (looks great in photos + keeps you dry).
  • Waterproof bags/pouches for vows, rings, and essentials.
  • Quick-dry towels (for wiping off wet surfaces before sitting).
  • Ponchos or rain jackets (PNW weather can switch up fast).

For the Adventure Couples

  • Headlamps or lanterns(if we’re hiking before sunrise or after sunset).
  • Compact picnic blanket for mid-hike breaks or beach moments.
  • Bug spray & sunscreen (yep, even in cloudy weather).
  • Backup shoes (your first pair will get dirty and/or wet).

Elopement Day Details

  • Vow books (even if you have your vows on your phone, a handwritten version hits differently).
  • Touch-up kit (lipstick, blotting papers, mini hairspray).
  • Mints or gum (you’ll be up close & personal).
  • Something warm to drink (thermos of tea, coffee, or spiked cider).
Flat lay of wedding items including invitations, a photo card, two rings in a box, a perfume bottle, a handkerchief, a cameo brooch, and two booklets labeled "Hers" and "His.

Bonus: What Couples Always Forget

Tide Chart App – If you’re eloping on the coast, the tide waits for no one. Know when the water’s coming in.

A Steamer – No one wants wrinkled wedding clothes straight out of a suitcase.

Backup Socks – Wet socks = instant mood kill. I mean, think about it. Wet socks are just wet blankets on your feet and there’s a reason the term wet blanket is an insult. Don’t have your feet be the wet blankets of your wedding day.

A Playlist + Portable Speaker – Bring the vibes to your adventure.

Marriage License & Rings – Check, double-check, and triple-check. You’d be surprised how many people almost forget these.

Pack Smart

Packing smart means you can focus on the moment, not the logistics. Whether you’re hiking to a misty mountaintop or exchanging vows on a secluded beach, being prepared lets you be fully present on your day.
