One of the biggest questions I get before a boudoir session is, What should I wear? The answer? Whatever makes you feel confident, sexy, and completely YOU.

Boudoir isn’t just about lingerie (though if you love lingerie, go for it!). There are so many ways to make your session unique—whether that means cozying up in an oversized sweater, going bold with statement pieces, or keeping it simple with a classic black bra and panties.

Here’s your ultimate guide to choosing what to wear for your boudoir session.

1. Define Your Boudoir Style

Before picking outfits, think about the vibe you want for your session. Are you feeling soft and romantic, bold and daring, or somewhere in between?

  • Casual Chic – Think Calvin Klein underwear, thick socks, and lazy Sunday morning vibes. Soft, effortless, and natural.
  • Glam Girl – Full glam makeup, sultry lingerie sets, and a touch of luxury. Perfect for those who love a little extra sparkle.
  • Vixen Vibes – Smoky eyes, red lips, and black or red lingerie, accented with leather and chains. A bold, dominatrix-inspired aesthetic.
  • Bridal Boudoir – Lots of white lace, soft and girly lingerie sets, and a veil + strategically placed bouquet (a classic shot!). A dreamy way to celebrate before the wedding.
  • Sexy Halloween Boudoir – The ultimate in fantasy play. Costumes, masks, and themed looks for a fun, sultry, and creative session.

2. Lingerie & Classic Boudoir Looks

If you love lingerie, this is your time to shine! Here are some options that always look amazing:

Matching Bra & Panty Sets – A classic for a reason. Matching sets create a polished, put-together look.

Bodysuits & Stretchy Lace Lingerie – Hug your curves in all the right places and create a sleek, confident look. Amazon has tons of these styles, and they work on every body type!

Sheer Robes & Kimonos – Perfect for layering and adding an extra little somethin’ somethin’.

Skip Corsets & Bustiers – These can be uncomfortable and difficult to pose in unless professionally fitted and designed for your body type. They often create an unflattering fit and can cause awkward bulging in areas you don’t want emphasized.

3. Cozy & Casual Boudoir Looks

Not into lingerie? No problem! Boudoir is about capturing YOU, and casual can be just as sexy.

  • Oversized Sweaters – Cozy, flirty, and effortlessly beautiful.
  • Boyfriend Shirt or Button-Up – The perfect “just rolled out of bed” look.
  • Knee-High Socks – A playful and sexy touch.
  • Simple Bra & Panty Sets – Because sometimes, less is more. Even your everyday looks can sizzle in the right setting.

4. Bold & Statement Pieces

Want to make a statement? Go for it! Boudoir is the perfect time to step outside your comfort zone.

  • Leather, Harnesses & Strappy Lingerie – Edgy, bold, and full of confidence.
  • Red & Black Everything – Classic power colors for a reason!
  • Dramatic Jewelry – Statement earrings, layered necklaces, or even a body chain can take your look to the next level.
  • Nothing at All – The most daring and liberating option of all.

5. Bridal Boudoir Must-Haves

Bridal boudoir is a beautiful way to celebrate before the wedding.

  • Lace Lingerie in White, Ivory, or Blush – A soft, romantic aesthetic.
  • Veil or Bridal Accessories – A sheer veil, pearl jewelry, or your wedding shoes.
  • Bouquet or Flower Crown – A delicate, natural touch.
  • Something from Your Wedding Day – A garter, your wedding shoes or jewelry, or a sentimental item.

6. Accessories & Details That Elevate Your Look

Sometimes, the little details make all the difference.

  • Jewelry – Statement earrings, dainty necklaces, or body chains add an extra layer of style.
  • Layers – Faux fur coats, leather jackets, silk robes, or your partner’s work shirt or favorite jacket.
  • Alternative Outfit Sources – Amazon searches for sexy rave, club, or festival outfits can lead to some amazing finds!
  • Lipstick & Nail Polish – Bold red lips? Soft nude tones? Your call!

7. What Not to Wear for Boudoir

While there’s no wrong way to do boudoir, here are a few things to avoid:

Don’t Wear Super Tight Clothing Before Your Shoot

Tight bras, socks, leggings with lots of seams, and jeans can — and will — leave marks on your skin. Opt for loose clothing like flowy dresses and sweatpants.

Avoid Babydoll Lingerie

While cute, babydoll lingerie and dress styles just do NOT photograph well. It hides your shape — which is never cool. We’re about enhancing and highlighting, not hiding.

Skip Anything That Doesn’t Fit Properly

Fit is the biggest most important thing when it comes to what you wear for your boudoir session. If it’s too tight, too loose, or doesn’t make you feel incredible, skip it.

If you’re spilling out of a cup or the bra band is digging in instead of sitting comfortably, then it doesn’t fit. You also want to make sure you’re wearing bottoms that are the right style for your body shape. Avoid anything that digs in or gaps.

Don’t Wear Anything You’re Not Comfortable In

Confidence is key, so if it doesn’t make you feel amazing, don’t wear it!

Don’t try to force yourself into pieces that just don’t work because it’s on sale or because you already own it.

Now is the time to go all-in. Lingerie is meant to enhance your body and highlight your favorite parts.
