Star Map of the Night Sky

Cool Stuff, Weddings

I love quirky things. I’m not into cutesy stuff, and I despise “sayings” (sorry!) like Live, Laugh, Love. I’m all about uniqueness, and my personal style is kind of an eclectic mid-century modern boho mix.

Anything that is hanging in my house (and trust me, there’s not much because it’s a small house) is something that has some personal meaning, like the Jack Daniels sign I bought in TN when I was trapped in a souvenir shop during a tornado. The large painting in our dining nook reminds me of a painting my mother made when she was a teenager that my grandmother loved, and proudly displayed in her kitchen, by the table. We also have a map of the Death Star on our living room wall (which, by the way, no one has ever noticed lol) because my husband loves Star Wars. And behind our bar/red thing (yeah, we call it the red thing) is an abstract photo of fireworks that my dear friend Katie took.

So I generally am not a fan of the signable wedding guest book type of things for me personally.

BUT… a few months ago, a couple had this star map poster with their names and a map of the night sky that day. I loved it. And I kinda wished that I had known about this before we got married in November, because I would’ve gotten one. I made a mental note to do a google search and figure out where it came from, because I liked it that much.

The sky and stars and outer space will never cease to amaze me. I will never tire of looking at photos of the night sky or outer space.

Fast forward a month or so, and the artist, Jennifer, who makes the star maps reached out to me to see if I would be interested in my own star map. Ummmmm, YES!

There are quite a few options for the star map. There are different color backgrounds / sky (navy, black, and grey). I chose the black sky with a white background. You can also choose to do a solid grey/black/navy background if you’d like. Our room is navy blue (which I actually finally finished painting in anticipation for getting the map in the mail) so I knew a white background would stand out best.

There are also different font options available, and you can have it say whatever you want. I went simple and added our names, our wedding date, and the coordinates of the town we live in (which is where we got married). You can choose to have the constellations outlined or not (I went with not), and you have the option to add a border to the edge (which I did).

Our sky map is what the night sky looked like on November 17, 2017 in West Alton, MO. This poster perfectly blends in with the feel of our home, and it has that nice sentimental touch without being mushy or too country/rustic feeling for me.

If you’d like to order your own star map, check out Jennifer’s Etsy store here. The posters come in quite a few different sizes, from big to small, and would super cool not just as a wedding guest book, but also for a kid’s room (just use their birthday) or even as a newborn gift. It would also make a great anniversary gift. The 8×10 size is small enough for gallery walls or for that odd corner that needs something but you’re not sure what.

And there’s not just sky maps. There are city maps, ski map prints, and country map prints. Definitely check it out!
