yA Jefferson Underground Rooftop Wedding with Romantic Industrial Vibes

From Jaimie:

Liz and Joey poured every ounce of “them” into their Jefferson Underground rooftop wedding. It was mostly non-traditional and very much fun.

Spending the morning with Liz and her family and friends as they got ready was a blast. I think the photos I snapped of her hanging with her parents and sister are my favorite family photos ever. Everyone was just so easy together, ad there was so much chiding and joking and laughing.

They skipped a wedding party, except for their dog!

They nixed having a traditional wedding party. Their nearest and dearest were all involved in the day, but it never once required matching/coordinating outfits. Even without a wedding party, they still managed to include everyone who was important to them and made everyone feel included and important.

They made sure to include their dog Noodle in the wedding party though! He absolutely stole the show, as it WAS his big day.

It was hot – so, so, so hot. And while the heat was mentioned a few times, no one let it ruin their day, or their night for that matter! Their entire event was a true celebration, not a social obligation.

Many of the guests were from out of town, so a St. Louis rooftop wedding with a bit of an Arch view is always a crowd-pleaser.

These two are so loved and adored by their friends and family. If it wasn’t evident enough from the toasts, it was more than made clear by the festive good vibes of their wedding guests.

How you met // The Love Story – tell me your story!

We met across a table at a friend’s house playing liars dice – it involves a whole lotta whiskey and bluffing…

Your Venue(s) – tell me why you choose a rooftop wedding and what you loved about it!

The Jefferson Underground was the perfect space, quirky as hell, really beautiful and super random. We danced the night away and loved the beauty and weirdness of the space. We chose the rooftop for our ceremony and the dance party, but ate dinner indoors in the AC.

Decor + Details – Tell me about the feel of your rooftop wedding. What you chose and why ◡̈

Calla lilies are our favorite flowers. We wanted romantic as the space is so industrial.

What she wore – tell me about your dress. Where you found it, how you found it, why you chose it!

My cousin, Susan Jaff, made my dress in South Africa – the bodice was fully hand beaded with Swarovski crystal and 40 layers of tulle. Not white, but beige and grey and light pink. We wanted something different and special.

What he wore – tell me about the groom’s attire. What he chose and where he got it from.

Grey linen 3-piece suit. It was hot as hell but he looked good.

The Ceremony – tell me how you planned your ceremony, how you felt during the rooftop ceremony, and what you loved about it!

Shira Miller was our officiant, one of our best friends – the wedding focused on community and our relationship. Modern with a whiskey ceremony, Jewish and Catholic traditions and modern readings including the poem read at Obama’s 2009 inauguration. We wanted women to run the ceremony.

Music // Reception // Party – How did you envision your reception? What was your goal for the party?

We had Jeremy and Leslie play for the cocktail reception – love them both! and Roland and the Soul Endeavor rock the night away for our rooftop reception with soul and Motown. The party was meant to be a rager. And it was!!!

Your Photographer (that would be me!) – how did I help you? Why did you choose me?

We wanted a photographer with a great vibe, who would understand we wanted to capture the nature of the event. Not stage or fake photos, but get the real love and energy and excitement of the night and show us for who we were. We really LOVED Jaimie!!!

Advice to couples planning their wedding:

Remember it’s your night. Though the planning should involve your family and friends, enjoy the day yourselves, and let go of everything! It will all go wrong and still be amazing. xxxx
