Romantic Golden Hour Downtown Wedding Photos

Kelli + Nour chose to have a small, intimate wedding ceremony. A few days later, we met up for romantic golden hour downtown wedding photos.

Kelli is an amazing photographer, and left it up to me and the videographer, Recer Films, to choose a location for the photos. She wanted something with breathtaking scenery and light. I had just the place in mind.

Golden Hour Downtown Wedding Portraits

I love shooting in downtown Alton. When the sun is shining, there’s always amazing light somewhere. The building textures and the brick streets can’t be matched. The architecture is my favorite in all of the entire St. Louis metropolitan area.

I love ending golden hour downtown Alton sessions at the marina. The topography makes it easy to get a beautiful shot with the bridge all lit up in the background.

It’s not often that I get to shoot wedding portraits at the perfect time of day, and have time for creative portraits.

One of the benefits of doing an adventure elopement, or doing a portrait session on a separate day is that there is time for romantic golden hour downtown wedding photos like this.

When to Schedule Golden Hour Portraits

The best time to schedule golden hour downtown wedding portraits 60-90 minutes before sunset, depending on the time of year. During the summer, we have a really long blue hour. Blue hour is the time after the sun has set, before it’s completely dark. I really enjoy blue hour portraits, especially in a downtown area with all the lights! If there’s great parking garages or rooftops in your downtown, you’ll bet I’ll want to get up there. Blue hour and night shots on parking garage roofs are pretty amazing.
