How to Make the Most of Your Elopement Timeline

One of the best things about eloping? You don’t have to stick to a rigid, traditional timeline. There’s no set schedule, no strict rules—just you and your partner, creating a day that feels exactly right.

But with that freedom comes a little decision-making: How do you structure your elopement so you get the most out of it?Let’s talk about how to plan a timeline that gives you all the magical, unscripted moments without the stress.

1. Decide on the Best Time for Your Ceremony

Your elopement timeline starts with one big decision: What time of day do you want to exchange vows?

Sunrise:

  • Best for secluded, peaceful locations.
  • Dreamy, golden light and cooler temperatures.
  • Perfect for places that get crowded in the afternoon.

Midday:

  • Bright light, vibrant colors, and blue skies.
  • Works well for indoor elopements or locations with shade.
  • Can be hot in some locations (think: desert and beach elopements).

Golden Hour (Sunset):

  • The most romantic, flattering light of the day.
  • Perfect for dramatic landscapes and warm tones.
  • Usually the busiest time in popular elopement locations.

Nighttime:

  • Moody, intimate, and unique.
  • Amazing for city elopements (think: neon lights & skyline views).
  • Requires extra lighting (which I’ll help with!).
